Netflix StreamFest: 48 Hours of Free Unlimited Access Launches in India

Netflix is rolling out StreamFest, a limited-time promotion granting 48 hours of unlimited free access to its full library—no payment details required.

StreamFest kicks off as a test in India on December 4, with plans to expand to other countries if successful.

What is StreamFest?

This nationwide event opens Netflix to everyone in the participating country for two full days. It follows the recent end of Netflix's 30-day free trial, showing the company's ongoing push for innovative growth strategies.

In Netflix's Q3 2020 earnings call, COO Greg Peters revealed the concept, highlighting its potential to drive engagement without barriers like credit card entry.

The idea surfaced via Protocol's analysis of the Netflix Android app code, which referenced StreamFest across all supported devices. Code strings even hinted at capacity limits, like "Netflix StreamFest is at capacity," though Netflix hasn't confirmed user caps.

What's Next for Netflix?

Netflix's Q3 2020 added 2.2 million subscribers globally—below expectations after a pandemic-fueled surge of 25.86 million in the first half of the year, surpassing all of 2019.

The company recently raised its standard two-screen plan in Canada from $14 to $15. Peters noted price hikes only occur when value increases for members, staying mum on broader changes.

Production is ramping back up to near-normal levels post-pandemic disruptions to original content.

Should You Subscribe to Netflix?

StreamFest is the ideal way to explore Netflix's ad-free, multi-device streaming and vast library. With perks like multi-screen viewing, it's worth sampling before committing.
