Valorant Agent Bans

Debates over Agent and map bans have persisted in the Valorant community. With just 19 Agents available, implementing a full drafting phase is tricky today. Yet, as the esports scene matures, Riot may introduce such mechanics.

Leaks indicate Agent bans could roll out in competitive games soon. Developers have fielded repeated questions like, "Will there be a pick-and-ban system for Agents and maps?"

An investigative reporter tweeted: "Looks like we're getting Agent bans for the first time in a VALORANT competition? Pretty sick if true – will be implemented in the next Knights VALORAMPAGE event later this month."

VALORANT Senior Game Designer Trevor Romleski addressed this in a prior blog post: "We expect teams to have set plays and strategies that will require very specific agents. Banning an agent would invalidate this entire strategy, and we don't want to discourage this practice."

During an April 6 Twitch stream, Designer Nicholas Wu Smith fielded questions on viable ban targets: "Maybe close to 30." This system would initially target competitive play only, with no official confirmation yet.
