The Roku Channel Now Free on Amazon Fire TV: Stream Movies, Shows & Live TV

Great news for Amazon Fire TV users: The Roku Channel is now available, offering completely free access to premium entertainment.

What is The Roku Channel?

Launched in 2017, The Roku Channel is a free, ad-supported streaming service from Roku, delivering thousands of movies and TV shows. Enjoy Hollywood blockbusters, kids' programming, true crime documentaries, and much more.

It also provides over 100 live TV channels, including Fubo Sports Network, Reuters, and USA Today.

While Roku devices support paid add-ons like Starz and Showtime, these aren't available on Fire TV. The extensive free library is more than enough to keep you entertained.

According to Roku's blog, the service reached 43 million U.S. viewers in Q2 2020.

How to Watch The Roku Channel on Amazon Fire TV

Previously exclusive to Roku devices, The Roku Channel now supports all Amazon Fire TV platforms, from streaming sticks to smart TVs.

Simply search for it in the top navigation bar or download the app from the Amazon Appstore website.

Use Alexa for quick access: Say "Alexa, find the Roku Channel app," then "Alexa, open The Roku Channel" after installation.

Sandeep Gupta, Vice President of Amazon Fire TV, shared insights with Variety on this expansion.

What's Next for The Roku Channel?

Roku's move to a competitor's platform like Fire TV makes sense: it broadens reach in a reciprocal ecosystem where Amazon Prime Video is available on Roku. Most revenue comes from ads and subscriptions.

Upcoming Android and iOS apps are slated for later this year.
