Peacock, NBCUniversal's innovative streaming service launched just months ago, is now accessible on the Roku platform.
This development follows a resolution to disputes between the two companies over advertising revenue sharing.
Peacock officially debuted nationwide in the United States on July 15, 2020. Owned by NBCUniversal—a Comcast subsidiary—it caters to a wide audience with tiered memberships. The entry-level free plan offers a curated content library supported by ads.
The platform features exclusive originals, live news, sports, and beloved titles from Universal Pictures and Universal Television.
While available on numerous devices since launch, Peacock was notably absent from Roku—until now. The app is rolling out widely.
To install Peacock on Roku, simply search for the Peacock channel in the Roku Channel Store. If prompted for a code, enter PAON.
The primary gap remains Amazon Fire TV, where Peacock is still unavailable. For Peacock fans, Roku currently outshines the Amazon Fire Stick.
Initially, Peacock's arrival on Roku seemed unlikely due to a standoff over Roku's advertising terms.
NBCUniversal and Roku previously had an agreement for TV Everywhere channels like Bravo and Syfy, but it expired. Roku proposed an extension tied to Peacock distribution, yet NBCUniversal objected to Roku's ad revenue cut.
As reported by Variety, negotiations stalled. NBCUniversal stated, "Roku's unreasonable demands ultimately harm its consumers and consumer equipment partners," and threatened to pull its TV Everywhere channels.
Ultimately, both sides reached a new deal—details undisclosed. TV Everywhere channels stay on Roku, now joined by Peacock.
Peacock's addition bolsters Roku's lineup of premium free shows and movies—easy to access, no commitments required.
