Those are world numbers. When we look at it by country, we see that only half of them are US users. It's still an impressive achievement, but that means that 60 percent of the United States still hasn't given in to the lure of Netflix (assuming a total of 125 million households).
If you're thinking about subscribing to Netflix but aren't sure if it's right for you, you've come to the right place.. In this article, you'll learn everything you need to know about Netflix, how it works, what you can watch on it, and various nifty tips and tricks that even dedicated Netflix users won't even know about.
As of this writing, Netflix is available in almost every country in the world. Notable exceptions include China (due to blanket censorship), as well as Crimea, North Korea, and Syria (due to embargoes put in place by the US government).
However, just because Netflix is available it does not mean that you can access the entire Netflix content library.
Due to the way content licensing works, Netflix can only show a certain title in a certain country. These limits depend on your IP address:US IP addresses can access US Netflix, UK IP addresses can access UK Netflix, etc.
In other words, if you travel to another country, you will only be able to access that country's version of Netflix. You may be able to bypass the restrictions by using a VPN. Netflix is a subscription service with three-tier plans:
In other words, the only difference between the plans is the maximum streaming quality and number of simultaneous streams, which only matters if you have a large family or share your Netflix account. (Don't worry, Netflix loves when you share!)
New users start with a free 30-day trial for any level.
A lot but not all.
In terms of variety of content, Netflix runs the gamut:just about every genre imaginable is represented in one way or another. You'll find plenty of TV shows and movies, but you'll also find that many of your favorites aren't included.
The Netflix library changes regularly. Every month some titles expire and are removed while new titles are added. (A “new” title means new to Netflix, not newly produced.)
Perhaps Netflix's biggest draw is its commitment to creating original content. Despite the occasional high-profile flop, Netflix has an excellent track record overall. For example:
Netflix's second biggest draw is its movie collection, which includes everything from indie disasters to Oscar-winning masterpieces. If you're itching for cinematic prowess, just hit one of these:

Comedies are popular on Netflix, with notable titles like:
Anime is also popular, although the selection tends to focus on series with a lot of buzz:
It's not all entertainment either. The library contains all kinds of educational material, like these science-based TV series:
And speaking of science and science shows, let's not forget that Netflix is a haven for unconventional and biting documentaries. Not only is the library full of them, but Netflix continues to fund the production of dozens of new documentaries each year. Our favorites include:

As of this writing, the United States library is the largest of all Netflix libraries, containing just under 4,500 TV shows and movies. Combining all of that can take a while, but luckily you have a few ways to speed it up.
At the top of the Netflix website, pull down the Glance menu to see more than 20 main categories, such as Action, Classics and Horror. On other devices, the categories may or may not be directly accessible in this way. For example, on some smart TVs, Netflix only shows categories that align with your viewing habits.
You'll also be able to browse three special side categories:Originals, What's New, and Audio &Subtitles. Originals are TV shows and movies you won't find anywhere else. New Arrivals is a list of recently added content, sorted by category. Audio and subtitles allows you to filter the library based on the availability of copy and copy languages.
If you want to watch something specific, just type it into the search bar to see if you can stream it. The interesting thing is that, in addition to titles, you can also search by people and gender.
For example, searching for “John” lists all shows and movies with a John in their cast. Use full names for more precision. Most people don't know about this trick, but it comes in handy when you're in the mood to watch something with your favorite actor or actress.
Occasionally you'll search for something and see that it's not available for streaming but is available as a DVD (US only). To learn more about this, read the “Does Netflix still send DVDs by mail?” section below.

A final option is to use a site like JustWatch, a search engine and database that catalogs all the TV shows and movies available on dozens of streaming services.
JustWatch is great because it has filters that Netflix doesn't have. For example, you can limit JustWatch results to movies or TV shows. You can also restrict titles released between certain years, or titles that received a score higher than X on IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes.
One of Netflix's big claims to fame is its recommendation engine. The more you watch, the more he learns about your interests and misfortunes. It takes that data and recommends other shows you might like, in hopes of keeping your queue full and your experience engaging.
All combined, the more than 100 million user base watches. billions of hours of TV shows and movies each month. No other company has direct access to such a large volume of viewing habits data.

In a word yes!
Although Netflix is now a streaming giant, it started out as a humble DVD delivery service. And unlike sites like Blockbuster, which had strict hours and expensive late fees, Netflix rose to fame with its free shipping system and no late payment policy.
The system works like this:you browse the online catalog, create a queue, and Netflix sends you the next one. You keep it for as long as you like, but to rent another you have to return it. When Netflix receives notification of the return, it immediately sends the next title in its queue.
The DVD-by-mail service still exists, but requires a separate subscription plan. If you have a regular Netflix account then this would be on top of it. You can also rent Blu-ray discs, but the plans are more expensive.
If you're in the continental US, you can expect disc shipments to arrive within two days. Return shipping is prepaid. Returning is as simple as putting the disc back in the sleeve, in the provided envelope and sending it as usual. Free trials are available for each plan.
Netflix disc rentals are only available to US subscribers.
