With endless streaming options, keeping track of movies and TV shows can be overwhelming. Trakt is a powerful platform that centralizes your viewing habits, covering nearly all streaming services, schedules, and sources in one intuitive dashboard.
Similar to Netflix's tracking but more versatile, Trakt logs what you watch, notes your likes and dislikes, offers personalized recommendations, watchlists, custom lists, viewing history, and beyond.
In this guide, drawn from years of hands-on experience with media trackers, we'll walk you through using Trakt to organize your entertainment life effortlessly.

Head to the Trakt website and click Join Trakt for free. After signing up, select your preferred genres and log some past watches. Hit Continue to Dashboard to complete setup.
The Dashboard offers a comprehensive overview: interactive stats, monthly viewing graphs, and a "What to Watch Next" section with tailored suggestions. 5 Sites To Find What TV Show To Watch Next – for even more recommendations based on your tastes.
Your default watchlist tracks upcoming views. Navigate to Television or Movies at the top. Add items via the blue + icon below the banner – it goes straight to your watchlist if no others exist.

These blue icons appear site-wide. Use Add to List and select Watchlist checkbox. Built-in calendar and progress trackers update automatically.

New accounts start with just a Watchlist, but custom lists let you curate by actor, director, genre, or theme.
Click Add to new list (+), name it, add a description, set display rules (e.g., counters on posters), choose sorting (runtime, recently added, popularity), and save.

From your Profile Name, select Lists. Sort via dropdown, reorder by drag-and-drop or position numbers. Add, edit, or delete lists here.

Trakt scans services like Netflix, Hulu, and Prime for availability. Netflix vs. Hulu vs. Amazon Prime: Which one should you choose? Below show images, click Watch Now for details on free access, subscriptions, or providers.

For episode air dates, use the Calendar tab. Customize via Profile > Settings: views (week/month), start days, poster sizes, and more.

Trakt maintains a full log. Scrobble current watches via the website's red Scrobble button on movie/episode pages.
Click the purple checkmark below banners or Add to History on summaries. It timestamps with current date/time.

Options: original air date, now, or custom.
Summary pages show play counts and recents. View full History under Profile. Uncheck items via purple checkmark to remove.
Scrobble auto-logs playback from Netflix, Plex, Kodi, Emby, Infuse, etc. Go to Apps, select your media center, and follow setup. Third-party addons via Trakt API handle most cases; advanced setups may need tweaks.
