How to Stop Chromecast Notifications from Appearing on Every Device in Your Home

As a tech enthusiast with years of experience using Google's Chromecast ecosystem, I can attest to its value. For around $35, this compact device transforms your TV into a versatile media hub. From streaming YouTube to mirroring your PC screen, Chromecast offers smart ways to enhance your setup.

However, a recent update to the Google Home app (formerly Chromecast app) introduced an unwelcome feature: every cast on your network triggers notifications on all connected Android devices. This disrupts privacy and usability, especially in shared households where not everyone needs to know what's playing. Worse, these alerts allow anyone to control playback, potentially interrupting your stream—as highlighted in our guide to common Chromecast privacy pitfalls.

Fortunately, disabling this is straightforward on each device. If a notification appears, swipe down from the top of your screen, expand the Chromecast notification with two fingers, and tap the gear icon on the left. Toggle off Show remote control notifications.

Without an active notification, navigate to Settings > Google > Devices & sharing > Cast options (or directly Settings > Google > Google Cast on some versions) and disable Show remote control notifications.

This feature might suit multi-user setups or dedicated remotes, but for most, it's intrusive by default. New to Chromecast? Check our step-by-step setup guide to get started quickly.
