Shroud Reveals Why He Quit PUBG: 'It's Old, Dated, and Done' – Eyes Sequel

PUBG is a battle royale pioneer that launched on PC in 2017 and mobile in 2018. It still boasts millions of active players worldwide, with thriving esports scenes driving significant revenue.

Yet, Twitch superstar and former Counter-Strike: Global Offensive pro Michael "shroud" Grzesiek sees it differently today.

Michael "shroud" Grzesiek, a Canadian streamer and YouTuber, regularly plays battle royales like CS:GO, Apex Legends, Valorant, Escape from Tarkov, and more.

Shroud Explains Why He Stopped Playing PUBG

In his July 17 YouTube video "Why I'm Not Playing PUBG," shroud shared his candid frustrations with the title.

“This is how my PUBG experience usually goes,” he said. “The first few games are actually pretty fun. Then this happens for the next 10 [minutes]… It’s just spawn, get a kill, die, spawn get a kill, die… It doesn’t matter where I go.”
"People think they want this game. But in reality… it's old, it's dated, it's done. That's it. Let's move on. Wait for PUBG2.”

“You know what this game would benefit from… [introducing a new system that involves] opening up the map and going, 'alright, I'm going to click and spawn here, I'm going to click and spawn here, I'm going to click and spawn here, you know?'”

Shroud hopes a sequel will rescue PUBG from stagnation. While PC numbers wane amid competition from Call of Duty and others, PUBG Mobile excels—top 5 in Sensor Tower revenue, over 1 billion downloads across Play Store and App Store. Hits like Battlegrounds Mobile India and PUBG: New State keep it strong.

Rumors point to a PUBG sequel in development, setting up an exciting PC return.
