Amazon has launched the new Kindle Oasis, its first waterproof e-reader. Though still a premium device, it brings significant upgrades over its predecessor, including the standout ability to withstand submersion. Unlike the plastic original, this model features a metal chassis, enhanced battery life, text-to-speech capabilities, and water resistance.

The Kindle Oasis boasts an IPX8 water resistance rating, surviving immersion at 1 meter for more than 30 minutes. While not for scuba diving, it's perfect for beach reads or poolside lounging.

The Oasis features Amazon's largest 300 ppi screen at 7 inches diagonally—ideal for larger books and immersive reading without compromising sharpness.
Similar in size to the 2016 model (3.4mm at thinnest, 4.6 ounces without cover), the new Oasis uses an aluminum chassis for a premium feel. However, aluminum can dent or bend on impact, unlike more forgiving plastic—a consideration for clumsy users.
Base models offer 8GB (enough for thousands of e-books), with options up to 32GB for a small premium. No confirmation yet on support for personal music or podcasts.
