Netflix offers a vast library of streaming content (check out our Netflix guide), but its built-in management tools can sometimes feel more frustrating than functional.
The homepage's Continue Watching section, for instance, lists partially viewed episodes and movies. While handy for ongoing series, it often clutters your view with titles you've lost interest in. Removing them typically requires awkwardly fast-forwarding to the end credits—a tedious process.
Luckily, as seasoned Netflix users with years of optimizing streaming setups, we've uncovered simpler ways to take control. Here are five practical tips to streamline your queue and enhance your viewing right away.
Your viewing queue on Netflix is called My List. Add titles by clicking the plus (+) icon next to content. By default, Netflix auto-sorts based on its algorithm's prediction of your preferences.
Take charge by switching to manual sorting. Log in, click Account from the top-right dropdown, then select My list order.

This opens two options:

Choose manual mode to reorder via click-and-drag. Titles appear in a stack with dotted handles on each side—drag anywhere to reposition. Use Move to top for instant priority, the X to remove, or the Play button to start streaming immediately.

The Continue Watching row shines for tracking TV shows, resuming exactly where you left off without hunting for episodes. But for duds—not among the 100 best movies on Netflix right now—it's clutter. Skip the playback trick; head to Viewing Activity instead.

Access it via your profile: top-right Account > My Profile > Viewing Activity.

Click the X next to any title to hide it from Continue Watching and Recently Viewed across devices (up to 24 hours). It also refines recommendations. Note: Kids profiles lack this. Undo by replaying the title.

Netflix's autoplay jumps to the next episode or recommendations, perfect for binges but risky on data plans. It prompts "Are you still watching?" after inactivity.
Disable via Account > My Profile > Playback settings.

Uncheck Autoplay next episode and adjust Data usage per screen (e.g., per-hour limits). Hit Save. Note: No control over preview seconds.
A bloated My List is common in multi-user homes—up to five profiles per account (check simultaneous streams). The login screen asks "Who's watching?" with a + to add profiles.
Manage via Manage Profiles: rename, add parental controls, or delete (e.g., unused Kids profile for educational Netflix tips).

Single users: Make mood-based profiles (e.g., TV vs. movies) to keep queues tidy.
Netflix swapped stars for thumbs up/down to boost ratings. Hover any title and click thumbs—up improves matches, down hides it from recommendations.

Even unseen titles show match percentages:

Rate more for precise suggestions; use percentages to prune My List.
These under-the-radar tools (buried in Account Settings or enhanced by top Netflix apps) transform chaos into control. As experts who've tested countless setups, we recommend trying them today for a tailored stream.
