Netflix is gearing up for what promises to be one of its most terrifying films yet, adapted from a recent Stephen King short story.
Amid the massive success of the South Korean sensation Squid Game shattering viewing records, Netflix keeps rolling out compelling projects. The latest is a feature film based on Stephen King's Mr. Harrigan's Phone, from his 2021 collection If It Bleeds.
While rival streaming services pour resources into epic series like Amazon's The Lord of the Rings or Apple TV+'s Foundation, Netflix stays true to its Stephen King roots.
This marks the platform's fourth King adaptation, following Gerald's Game, 1922, and the more recent In the Tall Grass.
The story centers on Craig, a small-town boy who forms an unlikely friendship with reclusive billionaire Mr. Harrigan over their mutual love of books. After Harrigan's death, Craig discovers he can still communicate with him via the iPhone buried with the old man...
Netflix has assembled a stellar cast, with veteran Donald Sutherland (The Hunger Games, The Great Escape, The Dirty Dozen) as Mr. Harrigan. Jaeden Martell, known for Knives Out, Midnight Special, and the blockbuster horrors It and It Chapter Two, plays young Craig.
Behind the camera is acclaimed director John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side, The Founder). The film is slated for a 2022 Netflix release.
