During matches, countless UI elements update dynamically. Global Invalidation cuts down unnecessary refreshes, yielding a 15% baseline performance gain—the largest since launch, proven over two weekends of rigorous testing.
“Achieving these gains was an effort that spanned multiple teams and took several months to complete,” shared VALORANT Software Engineer Aaron Cheney in the Developer Blog. "Our process of identifying areas of the game ready for optimization paid off, and risk management along the way has ensured a stable experience for players."
Work kicked off in July 2021 with performance research. Months of integration, bug fixes, and PBE testing in late 2021 and early 2022 paved the way for its live rollout.
