Activision has blocked access to Call of Duty Mobile (CODM) in Iran, preventing millions of gamers from enjoying this blockbuster title. Geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran have once again impacted gaming, with Iranian players reporting widespread issues accessing the game.
Reports from Reddit indicate that players are being denied entry to CODM servers, with no refunds provided for disrupted services. This follows heightened U.S.-Iran conflicts.
Countries worldwide have banned games citing violence or offensive content, often without solid evidence. For instance, India's government recently blocked PUBG Mobile over privacy concerns tied to national sovereignty.
Games from U.S. publishers frequently face outright bans in nations with strained relations, typically without refunds.
On April 12, Iran's CODM community was stunned when Activision enforced a region lock. Players now see an in-game message: "Unfortunately, we are not yet ready to release the game in your region," blocking normal access.
This affects approximately 32 million gamers, per the latest data from the Iranian Computer and Video Games Foundation. Twitter user Nariman Gharib shared a confirming screenshot.
Escalating U.S.-Iran tensions, coupled with sanctions, have restricted developer tools and new releases in Iran, fueling account sharing. A spokesperson for the International Consular and Non-Consular Gaming Alliance stated: "Due to repeated efforts by Iranian users to kick and hack user consoles and accounts, all user services will be cut for ten years."
With CODM now banned, it joins other major titles like Clash of Clans and League of Legends unavailable in Iran.
