Money Heist (La Casa de Papel): Complete Recap of Seasons 1-4 Before the Epic Finale

As Netflix drops the final chapters of Money Heist, the robbers face their toughest challenge yet inside the Bank of Spain. Here's our expert recap to get you up to speed.

After months of anticipation, fans can finally witness the conclusion of the Spanish heist saga. Led by the brilliant Professor (Álvaro Morte), the crew is trapped in the Bank of Spain, attempting to steal 9.2 tonnes of gold amid mounting complications.

The Heist of the Century

The Professor assembles the ultimate team of criminals—Tokyo, Rio, Helsinki, Moscow, Denver, Oslo, and Nairobi—for the perfect crime: infiltrate the National Currency and Stamp Factory, print 2.4 billion euros in untraceable bills in under 11 days, all without violence. Things escalate when they take hostages, including the British ambassador's daughter. Despite internal tensions and a standoff with police inspector Raquel Murillo, they escape with the equivalent of one billion euros.

Post-heist, Rio's arrest by Europol forces the gang's reunion for an even riskier job: robbing the Bank of Spain's gold reserve.

The operation kicks off by releasing 140 million euros via dirigible over Madrid streets. The Professor broadcasts Rio's Europol torture footage citywide, prompting army deployment. Disguised as soldiers, the robbers attempt entry, but police communications—intercepted by the Professor and now-allied Raquel—nearly derail them.

Inside, they split hostages: one group freed, the other held.

Bigger Stakes, Greater Dangers

Palermo blinds himself trying to seize the bank governor's badges. Newcomer Bogotá frees hidden accomplices among hostages to breach the vault.

Police colonel Tamayo orders Rio's transfer and confiscates team phones, cutting the Professor's eavesdropping. They uncover government secrets and embezzlement docs, forcing Tamayo to halt. Revelations strain the crew: Helsinki and Palermo's past affair, Nairobi's feelings for Helsinki.

Sierra threatens Raquel's family. The Professor loses comms; police gas fails as robbers counter-hostage cops for Rio's release. He rejoins inside.

Tensions peak between Professor and Raquel over tactics. A drone spots them, forcing separation.

Rio's tracker is removed. Sierra offers a 10 million euro bounty; locals betray Raquel. A distant gunshot echoes.

Sierra claims Nairobi's son; checking the window, Nairobi's sniped. Tamayo assaults, but robbers destroy his tank. Raquel survives—her "execution" a ploy to break the Professor.

The Challenges Intensify

Nairobi recovers as Tokyo's coup sidelines Palermo. Marseille aids the Professor's escape from pursuers.

Updated by Tokyo, the Professor rushes to confirm Lisbon (Raquel)'s survival, pressuring a cop for a message. Gandía escapes with Palermo's help, kills Nairobi, and turns the tables.

Tokyo treats then subdues him. Raquel escapes en route to trial with Professor and Marseille's aid. A fake message misleads police. She infiltrates the bank as Sierra finds the Professor's hideout.

Part 5 dropped September 3; finale arrives December 3.
