Poker is one of my greatest passions, and I'm excited to share it with you. Recently, I organized my first home poker tournament, and it was a resounding success among friends.
Hosting more than 10 people requires solid planning. I recommend checking out event organization guides—these tips were invaluable for my evening. For my tournament, I chose a Far West theme, evoking those secretive saloon games of old.
I had a blast with the decor: 'Wanted' posters on the walls, cacti, sheriff stars, lassos, boots, and bandanas. Invitations included a dress code, and to my delight, everyone participated, including the women.
With our group's love for great food at poker nights, I prioritized the menu. To keep it stress-free, I hired a caterer who delivered a fantastic Mexican buffet.
If you have limited chips, you'll need more for 10+ players. Aim for 400-450 chips in 4-5 colors for 15 players. I invested in a professional poker kit from Amazon—affordable and complete with cards, big/small blind buttons, and dealer button.
For the table, I commissioned a custom poker mat from a local craftsman. To make it authentic, I even hired a professional croupier who handled card dealing and chip distribution.
Ensure comfortable seating, as games can last 4-5 hours. Start by 6:30-7:00 p.m. to account for breaks and catering. We played cash game format, splitting the pot 70% to the winner and 30% to the runner-up.
