BYU vs. Navy Preview

Navy enters ranked No. 23 after an 11-2 season and a Liberty Bowl victory over Kansas State. Head coach Ken Niumatalolo aims for his second streak of nine straight winning seasons. The Midshipmen topped the nation in rushing (360.5 yards per game, 52 TDs) last year. Expect CJ Williams, Keoni-Kordell Makekau, and Myles Fells to lead a refreshed backfield.

New quarterback Dalen Morris, a senior who backed up Malcolm Perry in 2019, won the starting job in camp. Offensive coordinator Ivin Jasper praised Morris: "He came to camp on a mission and took the job. He's been outstanding in every practice."

Defensively, seven starters return from a unit that ranked 16th nationally (30 sacks, 22 turnovers in 2019), poised to challenge opponents again.

BYU's Zach Wilson returns at QB after throwing for 2,382 yards, 11 TDs, and nine INTs as a starter last year. He's confident: "We're going to be a great team and reach new levels. I'm sure we'll have a much better offense."

The Cougars lose tight end Matt Bushman to an Achilles injury, but coach Kalani Sitake remains optimistic: "We have experience across all positions." BYU allowed 25.5 points per game (48th nationally) in 2019 and faces a stern test here.
