Fortnite's Impostors mode launched recently, drawing heavy inspiration from the smash-hit social deduction game Among Us. While it brings those addictive mechanics to Epic's battle royale, not everyone's celebrating. Innersloth, the indie studio behind Among Us, expressed disappointment over the lack of credit or collaboration, viewing it as a straight copy rather than a partnership.

Among Us exploded in popularity, captivating streamers and casual players alike with its fresh social deduction gameplay that never gets old. Following Fortnite's major Season 7 storyline shift, Epic introduced new community-created content. But the latest addition—the Impostors mode in update v17.40—has stirred controversy across both communities.
The v17.40 update hit live servers with exciting additions like the Wonder Woman skin and Impostors mode, essentially Among Us within Fortnite. "Will you keep The Bridge safe and secure... or follow in Jones' footsteps and sabotage the Imagined Order from within?" Epic teases. Players discover their role as crewmate or impostor in this themed twist.

Though decked out in Fortnite flair—with tasks like repairing the Battle Bus or prepping Llama deliveries—core similarities remain stark. Impostors don't kill; they rift players out. Innersloth and fans are upset Epic didn't collaborate, especially after crossover hype. A few tweaks don't mask the inspiration.

The anticipated Fortnite x Among Us crossover felt like a missed opportunity for Innersloth and Epic to team up. Stay tuned for updates on this brewing tension.
