Clashes on a film set aren't just part of the script. Christian Clavier and Michaël Youn experienced genuine friction while shooting Rendez-vous chez les Malawis.
Released in 2019, James Huth's Rendez-vous chez les Malawis fell short of box office success, grossing 4.5 million euros against a budget exceeding 12 million euros.
Critics were unforgiving, and tensions boiled over on set between Christian Clavier and Michaël Youn.
On-screen partners in Rendez-vous chez les Malawis, Michaël Youn and Christian Clavier clearly didn't see eye to eye. The generational gap fueled their discord during production.
Filmed in January and March 2019 in South Africa, extreme heat nearing 50 degrees Celsius pushed tempers to the limit. Clavier voiced his frustration and even threatened to walk off the set.
During a December 2019 promo on Europe 1, host Mathieu Noël asked Youn who was the toughest to work with. The former Morning Live star didn't hold back: "Christian, what can I say… Yes, he was difficult."

Two years later, Youn reflected on the rift in Le Figaro: "It was a really tough shoot with someone I admire and am a big fan of—Christian Clavier. I'm a fan, but we just didn't click on a human level." Catch Rendez-vous chez les Malawis this Monday on TF1.
