We had the privilege of interviewing rising artist Wavey, whose journey in music is as dynamic as his name suggests.
1. Why do they call you Wavey?
The name Wavey symbolizes movement toward a goal. For me, it represents my future and aspirations. Like a wave from the sea reaching the shore, the ocean embodies my challenges and distractions, while I push forward to complete my journey.
2. When did you realize you had a passion for music?
I discovered my passion young. My dad created reggae music and would sing, rap, and perform for me and my siblings on the way to high school. I fondly remember staying late or arriving early to freestyle with friends. It was around 2015, at age 15, after pursuing basketball, that I fully committed to my true calling: music and art.
3. What are your main inspirations as an artist?
My uncles 'G' and 'Crow'—R.I.P. to Uncle Crow—sparked my interest in the industry. They showed me how to chase dreams and affirmed my talent. Key rapper influences include 50 Cent, Tory Lanez, Kendrick Lamar, Duck, and PartyNextDoor.
4. What would you like to accomplish as an artist?
I aim to build a massive brand and uplift others along the way. I'd like to launch a community investment course for schools in my city and provide free education for children from disadvantaged or ill backgrounds. I believe in thoughtful giving—I've learned from past experiences handing money to the homeless that sustainable impact matters more than handouts.
5. What is your most memorable moment as an artist?
Tory Lanez reaching out, asking for my best song, stands out. Watching him rise from the ground up inspires me to grind similarly, leaving a lasting impact. His recognition from someone local and talented means the world—I'm forever grateful.
6. Who is the greatest artist you have worked with?
I haven't collaborated with major artists yet, but I'm eagerly anticipating those opportunities.
7. Tell us a bit more about your recent project?
My latest project plays mind games: just when listeners think they've figured me out, I switch with fresh sounds, witty lyrics, and uplifting vibes. It addresses calculated psychological tactics others used to intimidate or confuse me for advantage.
8. What should we expect from you in the future?
Look out for my comic book "BE WAVE", album "Mind Games", video releases, singles, and bonuses with album purchases. I stay connected with fans—follow my socials, share love, or reach out anytime.
