Movies Anywhere is a leading U.S. platform that consolidates your digital movie purchases from multiple retailers into one convenient library.
Now, with the new Screen Pass feature, you can lend these movies to friends and family at no cost.
Movies Anywhere, owned by Disney and launched in 2014 (initially under a different name), is jointly operated by major studios including Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, Warner Bros., and 20th Century Studios.
It seamlessly links your movie collections from services like Amazon Video, Vudu, and Google Play. Simply connect your accounts for free, and all eligible titles appear in your Movies Anywhere library.
The platform also features its own storefront, redirecting purchases to your preferred retailer, and supports redeeming codes from Blu-ray and DVD discs.
Following a beta launch in March, Screen Pass is now available to all users. Developed rapidly amid the COVID-19 pandemic to meet surging demand—as reported by TechCrunch—this feature lets you temporarily share access to your movies without losing your own viewing rights or incurring fees.
Invite recipients via text, email, or messaging. Access lasts 7 days from invitation, with 14 days to start watching. Once started, the movie expires after 72 hours.
You can share up to three movies per month, provided you've purchased or redeemed a movie from a participating retailer every six months. Over 80% of linkable titles qualify, from blockbusters like Ready Player One and Pokémon Detective Pikachu to classics such as Back to the Future and Groundhog Day.
Movies Anywhere's Watch Together feature enables synchronized viewing parties, even remotely—similar to options on Facebook, Hulu, and Twitch.
