What do we know about the revival of Dexter:New Blood?

The dreaded serial killer will return to the screen next November. Find out everything we already know about Dexter's revival.

What do we know about the revival of Dexter:New Blood?

So it's time for a reunion, eight years after the broadcast of season 8 of Dexter. This series is one of the most popular titles of the American channel Showtime. Millions of viewers followed the development of the famous serial killer between 2006 and 2013. For those who didn't follow, Dexter Morgan works for the Miami police. He channels his murderous impulses by killing… criminals forgotten by justice. The series has a total of 96 episodes. In the eighth and final season finale, Dexter is left for dead after a boating accident. And yet… he survived well and leads a relatively peaceful existence. We tell you everything we know about the new mini-series that will soon be arriving on our screens.

10 years have passed since the last season

The events of Dexter:New Blood take place ten years after the Season 8 finale. What has Dexter Morgan been up to in this past decade? So we thought he was dead, this one actually lives in the fictional town of Iron Lake, New York.

Dexter Morgan now calls himself Jim Lindsay. We also know that he works in a fishing shop. He seems rid of his murderous impulses. His will to lead a peaceful life is undermined, however, when a threat descends on the town of Iron Lake...

What cast should we expect?

Let fans of the wise be reassured, Michael C. Hall will lend his features to the famous anti-hero. This is not the only good news, since we know that Jennifer Carpenter will also be back in the role of Debra Morgan, Dexter's adoptive sister. The latter, however, died in the last season. But we are already sure to see her again during appearances. She should be a kind of personification of conscience of the serial killer.

Dexter's main enemy, Arthur Mitchell, will always be played by John Lightgow. As for Dexter's son, Harrison Morgan, he will also be there, played by Jack Alcott. In the last season, it was Jadon Wells who lent his features to the child. Dexter:New Blood should introduce a Harrison who has become a teenager, eager to reconnect with his father. The father-son relationship should even be one of the main themes of this season.

Regarding the new recruits, Showtime has already announced the casting. We will therefore have the pleasure of seeing on the screen:

  • Julia Jones (The Mandalorian), as Angela Bishop
  • Alano Miller (For the Love of Sylvie), as Logan
  • Johnny Sequoyah (Believe), as Audrey

We already know that the love story between Dexter Morgan and Hannah McKay is over. No question of seeing her again on the screen, therefore. Dexter, aka Jim Lindsay, is now in a relationship with Iron Lake Police Chief Angela Bishop.

This is not a season 9!

The revival of Dexter:New Blood will have a total of 10 episodes. The events that the series will stage will take place over two weeks. The revival is overseen by Clyde Phillips, who was already the showrunner for the first four seasons. Warning:this return of Dexter does not consist of a ninth season!

If this new part is often misrepresented as season 9 of Dexter, the showrunner told viewers that Dexter:New Blood is more of a miniseries or reboot than a final season.

A way to stand out, and to start a new story. The first episode will air on Showtime on November 7. For an arrival in France as soon as possible, we hope...

Soon a spin-off for Dexter?

Showtime president Gary Levine recently said that Dexter:New Blood could remain a limited series. Or rather, a “special series”, since we cannot qualify a series that has been on the air for a long time as a limited series. It is, for him, a “revisit of Dexter and a fitting end to a brilliant series.

But this does not end here. The return of Dexter is already great news for fans of the “sympathetic” serial killer. But it could also be that a spin-off is soon on the way! If, at this stage, it is only a question of speculation, Gary Levine did say to Deadline that this possibility is being studied:

The adventures of Dexter could therefore not stop there. However, success will have to be there for Dexter:New Blood.
